Warszawa Zachodnia

THE STATION IS CURRENTLY NOT OPERABLE.

Warszawa Zachodnia is one of the most important stations serving passenger traffic in Warsaw. Tracks from several directions converge here, which then become a four-track cross-city line. The Warsaw Commuter Railway (WKD) also has its stop at the station on dedicated tracks.
The station is divided into three switching regions: a long-distance one, serving the entry and exit of trains from the direction of Lowicz and Skierniewice. This is served by 3 long-distance tracks, connecting the station with the Warszawa Włochy branch station. There is also a double-track track from Radom, and trains starting in the eastern direction are substituted through a single-track connector under the line to Skierniewice. These trains then pass towards Warsaw Central on a double-track track. In the past, there was also a double-track route to the Warsaw Central station, which now houses the Railway Museum. The long-distance section consists of 7 edges located at 4 platforms (platform 4 remains shared with the suburban tracks).
Another part of the station is the suburban region, which, like the long-distance one, handles relations from Lowicz and Skierniewice, but on suburban tracks. Since 2008, two new suburban tracks have also been in operation, creating a collision-free exit in the direction of Radom (previously, passenger trains in this direction departed from the Warszawa Główna station, and then passed from Śródmieście to the long-distance platforms). Passenger trains are also substituted at the station, served by the locomotive depot Warsaw Ochota Postojowa, with which there is a two-track connection. There are two tracks leading to the cross-city line from this area, which extend to the Warszawa Wschodnia station. The suburban part is 5 edges located at 3 platforms. Between the station building and the suburban platforms are located WkD tracks.
The last part of the station is the Szczęśliwicki area, which handles the substitution of trains from the Warszawa Czyste station, as well as the Warszawa Bema sidings and trains substituted on the tracks at platform 8 (formerly the Warszawa Wola stop), which starts the ring line. Trains were also substituted to the Warszawa Główna station, via a single-track track.[1]
